Goldey-Beacom earns a split versus Caldwell

The Goldey-Beacom College softball team would earn a split on Saturday over the Caldwell University Cougars as the team won the first game 7-6 and lost the second 1-0.

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom trails by three runs at the end of the first inning.

Caldwell would be the first team to get on the scoreboard in this game, as the team scored three runs on five hits and one error to take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the opening inning.

Taylor Quinn and Jessica Klein would each knock in an RBI single in the inning, and Quinn would also score on a throwing error from the Lightning’s catcher two plays later to give their team a 3-0 edge.

The Lightning would trail by two runs at the end of the second inning.

GBC would cut into the deficit a little in the top of the second inning, as Junior infielder Bryn Bohmann slugged a lead-off solo home run to left center to slice the score to 3-1.

GBC trails by three runs after three innings of play.

Taylor Quinn would strike again for Caldwell in the bottom of the third inning when she pushed in a run on a Sac fly to right field to give her team a 4-1 advantage.

Goldey-Beacom holds a one-run lead at the end of the fifth inning.

The Lightning bats would finally find a spark in the top of the fifth inning, as the team scored six runs on five hits and one error to take a 7-4 lead.

Sophomore catcher Emma Friel and Junior infielder Alex Lowry recorded an RBI single in the inning.

 Another run was scored when senior outfielder Hannah Davis recorded an RBI when she took first base after getting hit by a pitch.

Bryn Bohmann had the highlight hit of the top of the fifth, as she slapped a three-run double to left-center to push the score to 7-4.

Even though Goldey-Beacom took the lead, the Cougars would make things a little dicey in the bottom of the inning as Riley Riendeau smacked a two-run double to center field to cut the score to 7-6.

Pitching Recap:

Senior starting pitcher Abigail O’Shields went seven innings, gave up nine hits, six runs, five earned runs, struck out five batters, and earned the win.
