After getting rained out most of the week, the Wilmington University baseball team picked up a 5-1 win over the Holy Family University Tigers on Friday.

The score would be tied at one at the end of the third.
There wasn’t much scoring in the first two innings, as both lineups combined for two hits and scored zero runs during that time.
WilmU would change that in the top of the third inning, as they would score one run on one hit to take a 1-0 lead.
Freshman outfielder Brandon Grygo pushed in the first run of the game with an RBI single to the shortstop to give his team a 1-0 edge.
The Wildcats’ lead wouldn’t last long, as Holy Family’s Isaac Criss would get a run home on the ground to tie the game at one.

Wilmington would grab the lead back in the top of the fourth, as the team scored one run on three hits to grab a 2-1 edge.
The first three hits of the inning came from Sophomore first baseman Mason DeLuca, freshman outfielder D’Angelo Ponce, and sophomore infielder Tyler Pirrung who each hit a single.
Freshman shortstop Justin Hernandez would walk up to the plate with the bases loaded, as a run would get pushed in when he was issued a walk to give his team a 2-1 advantage.
Wilmington University takes home a 5-1 win!
Four innings later, the Wildcats would extend their edge as the team scored two runs on three hits to take a 4-1 lead.
D’Angelo Ponce started the scoring in the inning as he knocked a RBI double down the third base line to push the advantage to 3-1.
Tyler Pirrung would step up to the plate next, as he slapped an RBI single through the left side to take the score to 4-1.
WilmU would add one more run to their lead in the top of the ninth, as Brandon Grygo hit an RBI single to center field to push the score to 5-1.
Pitching Recap:
Starting pitcher Matt Warrington had a solid day on the mound, as he went six innings, gave up four hits, one run, one earned run, two walks, struck out ten batters, and earned the win.
The bullpen consisted of three relievers, who combined to give up zero hits, and zero runs, and struck out one batter.
