Taylor Gillis records 7 RBIs in Wilmington University’s sweep over Felician

The Wilmington University softball team earned a sweep on Monday as the team picked up two wins versus the Felician University Golden Falcons with a 10-4 victory and an 8-0 triumph.

Game Recap:

The game tied all up at two in the first inning.

Felician would strike first in this game, as Alexis Velotta would hit a two-run homer to left center to give her team a 2-0 lead in the top of the opening inning.

Wilmington University would respond in the bottom of the inning with junior outfielder Taylor Gillis pushing in a run with a sac bunt, and then Junior infielder Eve Serrato would get a runner home with a double to left-center to tie the game at two.

Wilmington University took a one-run lead in the second inning.

The Golden Falcons would grab the lead once again in the second, as Layla Albarran would knock a solo home run to center field to give her team a 3-2 edge.

Taylor Gillis would record her third RBI of the day in the bottom of the second when she slapped a two-run single up the middle to give WilmU a 4-3 advantage.

WilmU holds a five-run lead at the end of the fourth inning.

Felician would tie the game up at four in the top of the fourth inning when the team scored on a Wildcats throwing error.

Wilmington would take over the game in the bottom of the inning when the team scored five runs on four hits and two errors to take a 9-4 lead.

Two of the five runs for WilmU in the fourth came from a Golden Falcons error.

Senior second baseman Haley Downin and Taylor Gillis each hit an RBI double in the inning.

Taylor Gillis would continue her strong day at the plate as she drove a runner home with a ground out to take the score to 10-4.

Junior starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel went seven innings, gave up seven hits, four runs, three earned runs, four walks, four strikeouts, two home runs, and earned the win.
