Wilmington University would lead by one run at the end of the second inning.
The Wildcats would score the first run of the second game of the doubleheader when senior second baseman Haley Downin hit a bunt single to the pitcher, which allowed a runner to go home to give her team a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats lead by four runs at the end of the fifth inning.
The WilmU bats would go cold in the next two innings, as the team couldn’t get a single hit during that time. But that would all change in the top of the fifth inning when the team scored three runs on five hits to take the score 4-0.
Junior outfielder Taylor Gillis would get the scoring started in the fifth, as she slapped an RBI single down the first base line to give her team a 2-0 advantage.
Four batters later, Bri Coyle would step to the plate as she smacked a two-run single up the middle to give her team a 4-0 lead.
WilmU leads by three runs at the end of the sixth inning.
The Wildcats would add another run to their lead in the next inning, as Taylor Gillis would hit an RBI ground-rule double to push the team’s advantage to 5-0.
The Griffins would post their first two runs of the game in the bottom of the inning, as Skyler Cunningham would hit a two-run single to left field to slice the score to 5-2.
Wilmington University takes home a 7-2 win!
WilmU would widen their lead in the top of the seventh inning when senior outfielder Isabella Eleazar slapped an RBI single to left center, and sophomore catcher Rylee Maloney would knock a RBI ground-rule down the left field to give their team a 7-2 lead.
Pitching Recap:
Junior starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel went 3.1 innings, gave up six hits, one walk, struck out three batters, and earned the win.
Delani Sheehan would close out the game, as she went 3.2 innings, gave up four hits, two runs, two walks, and struck out five batters.
