The Wilmington University softball team earned a sweep on Tuesday as the team picked up two wins versus the Chestnut Hill College Griffins with a 10-1 victory and a 7-2 triumph.
Let’s talk about the 10-1 victory first!

Wilmington University leads by two runs at the end of the second inning.
Neither offense could get anything going in the first inning, but that would all change in the second when WilmU scored two runs on two hits to take a 2-0 lead.
Senior infielder Bri Coyle would start the scoring in the inning as she slapped an RBI double to right center to give her team a 1-0 edge.
Two batters later, junior catcher Bella Barnes stepped up to the plate and hit an RBI single to right center to take the score to 2-0.
WilmU takes a 6-0 lead at the end of the third inning.
The Wildcats would continue to pour on the runs in the top of the third inning, as the team scored four runs on three hits and one error to grab a 6-0 advantage.
Junior outfielder Gabriella Saucedo would start the scoring off in the third, as she would knock a two-run single through the left side to push the Wildcats lead to 4-0.
Three batters later, Bella Barnes came up to the plate, and she would push in her third run of the game with a two-run double to the left field to extend the team’s edge 6-0.
The Wildcats lead by seven runs at the end of the fourth inning.
Wilmington University would add two more runs to their lead in the top of the fourth when senior outfielder Sara Miller smacked a two-run double to center field to give her team an 8-0 edge.
Chestnut Hill would finally get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning when Anastasia Watson slapped an RBI double to right center to cut the score to 8-1.
Wilmington University takes home a 10-1 win!
Two innings later, the Wildcats would add two more runs to their lead, with Bri Coyle pushing in a run with an infield fly to the shortstop and senior pitcher Haley Downin getting a runner home with a single to center field to expand the team’s edge to 10-1.
Pitching Recap:
Redshirt sophomore starting pitcher Delani Sheehan had her way with the Chestnut Hill hitters in this game, as she went four innings, gave up three hits, one run, one earned run, one walk, struck two batters out, and earned the win.
Haley Downin closed out the game, as she went two innings and gave up two hits.
