Sara Miller drives in 11 RBIs in Wilmington University’s sweep over St. Thomas Aquinas

The Wilmington University softball team earned a sweep on Monday as the team picked up two wins versus the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans with a 13-1 victory and a 12-4 triumph.

Game Recap:

After one inning, the game would be all tied up at one.

Wilmington would get the scoring started in this matchup, as senior right fielder Sara Miller would smack a two-run homer to left center to give her team a 2-0 lead.

St. Thomas Aquinas would cut into WilmU’s in the bottom of the inning, as St. Thomas Aquinas would knock in one run to take the score 2-1.

Wilmington University takes a four-lead at the end of the third inning.

Two innings later, the Wildcats made their lead a little more comfortable, as the team scored three runs on three hits to take a 5-1 edge.

Junior infielder Eve Serrato started the scoring by hitting a two-run homer to right center to push her team advantage to 4-1.

Three plays later, senior outfielder Isabella Eleazar would slap an RBI single to center field to give WilmU a 5-1 lead.

WilmU leads by six runs at the end of the fifth inning.

The Wildcats would continue to add to their lead in the top of the fifth inning when Sara Miller would hit her second two-run homer of the day to extend her team’s advantage to 7-1.

Wilmington University takes home a 13-1 win! 

WilmU would continue to pour on the runs in the top of the sixth, as the team scored six runs on eight hits to take a 13-1 lead.

One of the highlights of the inning included Sara Miller continuing her hot streak in this one, as she slapped a two-run double to left center. 

Redshirt sophomore starting pitcher Delani Sheehan had the other multi-run hit in the inning, as she hit a two-RBI single up the middle.

Eve Serrato and Junior outfielder Tristyn Stewart also pushed in a run in the sixth inning.

Pitching Recap:

Junior starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel had a solid day on the mound, as she went five innings, gave up four hits, one run, one earned run, one walk, and earned the win.

Sophomore pitcher Brooke Koehler would close the game out, as she went one inning and struck out three batters.
