Goldey-Beacom closes out series versus D’Youville with a 8-7 victory

The Goldey-Beacom College baseball team closed out their series versus the D’Youville University Saints on Sunday with an 8-7 victory.

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom takes a 3-0 lead after two innings of play.

The Lightning would get on the scoreboard first in this game with a bang, as senior infielder Garrett Musey would hit a two-run homer to give his team a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the opening inning.

GBC would put some cushion in their lead in the bottom of the second inning when junior outfielder Christian Petrillo pushed in a run with a sacrifice fly to give his team a 3-0 edge.

The Lightning holds a 4-0 lead after five innings of play.

Three innings later, Christian Petrillo would come up big again for Goldey-Beacom, as he would smack a solo home run to left field to extend his team’s advantage to 4-0.

GBC leads by five runs after the sixth inning.

D’Youville would finally get on the board in the top of the sixth inning when Jake Hollins scored on a wild pitch, and then Ethan Hammond had a sac fly to cut the score to 4-2.

Goldey-Beacom would answer back strong in the bottom of the inning, as junior infielder Braden Kolmansberger would smack a three-run homer to center field to give his team a 7-2 edge.

The Lightning leads by four runs after the eighth inning.

The Saints would add two more runs in the top of the seventh and eighth innings to slice the deficit to 7-4.

Goldey would get one run back in the bottom of the eighth when Braden Kolmansberger stole third base and then scored on a throwing error by the catcher to take the score to 8-4.

D’Youville made the game interesting in the top of the ninth when the team scored three runs on four hits, but it wouldn’t be enough to get the win, as the Lightning would hold on to an 8-7 victory.

Pitching Recap:

Junior starting pitcher Wyatt Atkinson went two innings, gave up one hit, one walk, one struck out one batter, and earned the win.

The bullpen would consist of five relievers in the game, as they combined to give up ten hits, seven runs, five earned runs, six walks, and two strikeouts.

Senior Lance Hinton would close out the game as he went 1.1 innings, gave up four hits, three runs, three earned runs, three walks, and earned the save.
