O’Shields strikes out 17 batters in Goldey-Beacom’s sweep of Saint Rose

The Goldey-Beacom College softball team would earn a sweep on Friday as the team picked up two wins over the College of Saint Rose Golden Knights.

Let’s talk about a 5-0 win first!

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom leads by three runs after two innings.

The batters were silenced in the first inning of this game, but it was a different story in the bottom of the second, where the offense broke out for the Lightning.

GBC would score three runs on four hits in the inning to take a 3-0 lead. 

After a walk, single, and a foul out, senior designated player Gabriella Monzo would come up to the plate and smack a RBI single up the middle to give her team a 1-0 edge.

Two batters later, sophomore outfielder Delaney Insinga would get her turn at the plate, where she hit an RBI single through the left side to put Goldey-Beacom advantage at 2-0.

Freshman Utility player McKenna Frank was next, and she would slap an RBI single to third to give her team a 3-0 edge.

The Lightning would add another run in the bottom of the third inning.

Goldey would continue to cushion their lead in the bottom of the third when Gabriella Monzo would push in her second run of the day, as she hit an RBI single to left field to take the team’s advantage to 4-0.

Goldey-Beacom takes home a 5-0 win!

The Lightning wasn’t done adding to their lead just yet, as Junior infielder Alex Lowry would hit an RBI triple to right field to extend the team’s edge to 5-0 in the fourth inning.

Pitching Recap:

The Saint Rose batters had a tough day versus Senior starting pitcher Abigail O’Shields as she went seven innings, gave up one hit, and struck out 17 batters.
