Goldey-Beacom picks up a split versus Lock Haven

The Goldey-Beacom College softball team would earn a split on Wednesday over the Lock Haven University Bald Eagles as the team won the first game 6-3 and lost the second 8-7.

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom leads by three runs after two innings of play.

The scoring in this game would start in the second inning when the two teams combined for five runs.

Lock Haven would get on the scoreboard first in the top of the inning when Bella Schmitt hit an RBI single to the right side of the field to give her team a 1-0 lead.

Then, the Lightning would respond in the bottom of the second by scoring four runs on three hits to take a 4-1 edge.

Sophomore outfielder Delaney Insinga got the scoring started for GBC as she knocked a two-out RBI single up the middle of the field to tie the game at one.

Two plays later, junior infielder Alex Lowry slapped a three-run triple to right center to give her team a 4-1 advantage.

The Lightning scores two more runs in the third inning.

Goldey-Beacom would continue to solidify their lead as the team scored two runs on three hits and an error to grab a 6-1 edge.

Junior outfielder Bri Snover would drive in the first run in the inning as she hit an RBI double to center field to push her team’s advantage to 5-1.

Sophomore catcher Emma Friel would come up to the plate next, and she would hit an RBI single up the middle to give GBC a 6-1 lead.

Goldey-Beacom takes home a 6-3 win!

The Bald Eagles would make it interesting in the fourth inning, as the team would score two runs to cut the deficit to 6-3. That would be the last time, Lock Haven lineup would earn a hit as the Lightning would take home a 6-3 victory.

Pitching Recap:

Senior starting pitcher Abigail O’Shields had a solid game on the mound in the win, as she went seven innings, gave up four hits, three runs, two earned runs, and struck out nine batters.
