Wilmington University earns a split versus Florida Tech

The Wilmington University softball team earned a split versus the Florida Tech Panthers on Tuesday with a 2-1 win in Game One, and a 9-1 loss in the second match.

Game Recap:

Wilmington trails by one run after the end of the fourth inning.

The starting pitchers in this game came out on fire, as for the first three innings, WilmU’s junior  Kylee Gunkel and Florida Tech’s Alex Hendrian gave up a combined two hits.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the scoreless streak would end, as the Panthers would score one run when Mya Ogbodiewgu hit an RBI double to give her team a 1-0 lead.

WilmU takes home a 2-1 victory!

Two innings later, the Wildcats lineup would finally wake from their slumber, as the team scored two runs on two hits and an error to grab a 2-1 edge in the top of the sixth.

Graduate student infielder Sam Freeland would push the first run in the inning, as her ground out would allow Sophomore Cassidy Zelano to go home to tie the game at one.

Senior right fielder Sara Miller would come up to the plate next, as she would slap an RBI single to center field to give the Wildcats a 2-1 advantage.

Pitching Recap:

Kylee Gunkel kept the Florida Tech batters confused for most of the game, as she went seven innings and gave up four hits, one run, one earned run, three walks, and two strikeouts.
