At the end of the first half, the battle of the in-state rivals all tied up.
The game would start with Wilmington University jumping out to a 13-6 lead with 14:50 remaining in the opening half. Caleb Matthews came through for this team during this stretch, scoring five of WilmU’s 13 points.
The Wildcats stepped up during the time, as they had four defensive rebounds, one block, and one steal.
Eighteen seconds later, the Lightning would strike back, as the team went on a 15-8 run to tie the game at 21 with 10:22 left in the first half.
In the next three minutes and 65 seconds, Wilmington grabbed the lead back, but Goldey-Beacom would tie the game again at the 6:10 minute mark with the score at 31. GBC would take the lead in the following minute with a 33-31 score.
WilmU would respond by outscoring the Lightning 9-1 to take a 40-34 advantage with 2:34 remaining in the first half.
The lead wouldn’t last for long, as Goldey-Beacom outscored the Wildcats 7-1 to end the first half with the score tied at 41.

Fast forward to the 16:32 minute mark, where WilmU’s Taalib Holloman would get a layup to go in to give his team a 50-45 edge.
GBC would punch right back by firing off six straight points to grab a 51-50 advantage with 14:53 left in the game.
Then, for the next three minutes and 97 seconds, the two teams would lead back and forth until Brycen Williams drained a three-pointer for the Wildcats at the 10:15 minute mark to give his team a 61-56 lead.
At the 1:18 minute mark in the second half, Skip Burton would push WilmU’s advantage to 79-74. He would then make two more free throw shots at the 14-second mark to give his team an 81-78 edge.
But that wouldn’t be enough to put away Goldey, as the team outscored Wilmington 5-2 to push the game into overtime with the score tied at 83.
WilmU takes home a 99-91 overtime victory!
The Wildcats would take control of the court in the overtime period, as the team outscored the Lightning 16-8 to seal a 99-91 win.
Taalib Holloman and Amiri Stewart served up the highlights during this time, as the duo scored 11 of the team’s 16 points.
