The Wilmington University men’s basketball team clinched the number three seed for the CACC Tournament on Saturday with a 99-91 overtime victory over the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning.
Senior guard Amiri Stewart led the team in scoring in the win with 27 points.
Two other Wilmington players who scored in double digits in the win were senior guard Taalib Holloman (22), and Graduate student Caleb Matthews (11). Holloman would hit a huge milestone in the victory, as he surpassed 1,000 points in his career in the game.
Junior center Nalik Veasley was locked on the boards all day, collecting 13 rebounds.
WilmU had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included fast-break points (6-4), points off of turnovers (18-14), assists (16-14), steals (11-8), and blocks (5-2).
Wilmington University also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 46.4%(32-69) and Goldey Beacom shooting 40.0%(32-80). The Wildcats were also the better team at the three-point line in this game, as the team shot 29.2%(7-24), and the Lightning shot 22.2%(6-27).WilmU also had the advantage at the free-throw line, as the team shot 73.7%(28-38), and the Goldey-Beacom shot 63.6%(21-33).
