Goldey-Beacom earns a split versus Millersville

The Goldey-Beacom College baseball team earned a split on Friday by losing their first game 7-2 to the Millersville University Marauders, but they would take home a win in the second with a score of 8-2.

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom jumps out to a one-run lead at the end of the first inning. 

The Lightning would not waste any time getting on the scoreboard in Game Two of the doubleheader, as the team would score one run on one hit in the first inning. 

Senior outfielder Demetrius Johnson was the first baserunner of the inning, as he earned a walk. Two plays later, Johnson stole second base.

The next man up was senior infielder  Garrett Musey, who hit an RBI single to right field to give Goldey-Beacom a 1-0 lead.

The Lightning adds another run in the top of the second inning. 

GBC would continue to add to the edge in the top of the second, as the team would score one run on two hits and one error to push the score to 2-0.

Junior catcher Nick Harkins would start the inning off by hitting a double down the left-field line. Two plays later, Harkins would score off a throwing error to expand the team’s advantage to 2-0.

GBC adds two more runs to their lead in the third inning. 

Millersville would continue to have problems slowing down Goldey’s offense, as the Lightning would score two runs on two hits and one error to grab a 4-0 edge in the top of the third.

The first score of the third inning happened when junior infielder Braden Kolmansberger grounded out to the shortstop, which allowed Garrett Musey to go home to push the team’s advantage to 3-0.

Nick Harkins would be the next batter up, and he would reach first base on an error from the Marauders third baseman. That error would allow Senior infielder Darin Miller to score to give GBC a 4-0 lead.

Miller would come back in the top of the fourth inning and hit an RBI double to right field, which extended the Lightning’s advantage to 5-0.

Goldey-Beacom takes home an 8-2 win!

GBC would continue to pad their lead in the fifth inning, as the team scored three runs on two hits and one error to take an 8-0 edge.

The first run of the inning came when Nick Harkins would score on a throwing error from Millersville’s pitcher to take the score to 6-0.

After the next batter walked, senior third baseman Kyle Walker came up to the plate and hit a two-run single to right center to give his team an 8-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning.

Millersville broke through Goldey-Beacom’s pitching in the bottom of the sixth inning, where the team would score two runs on four hits to slice the deficit to 8-2.

Pitching Recap:

Senior starting pitcher Justin Jump had a solid day on the mound, as he went 5.1 innings, gave up three hits, two runs, two earned runs, one walk, six strikeouts, and hit one batter.

Junior pitcher Gage Bendix would come in for Jump, as he went 1.2 innings, giving up two hits and two strikeouts.
