Delaware State takes charge in fourth quarter to pull off 57-53 win over Morgan State

Delaware State holds a four-point lead at the end of the first quarter. 

Morgan State was hitting on cylinders in the early minutes of the opening quarter as the team took an 8-2 lead with 8:12 remaining in the first. Amari Smith would drain back-to-back three-pointers during that stretch.

Starting at the 6:37 minute mark, DSU would strike back by outscoring the Bears 18-8 to end the opening quarter with a 20-16 edge. Ja’Naiah Perkins-Jackson and Savannah Brooks were on fire during the run, as the duo scored ten of the team’s 20 points.

DSU would be down two points at the end of the first half.

Morgan State would overpower Delaware State in the second quarter, as the team outscored the Hornets 14-8 to take a 30-28 advantage to halftime.

The Hornets would be down by two points at the end of the third quarter. 

Fast forward to the 8:46 minute mark in the third quarter, where Savannah Brooks would get a layup to go in to give Delaware State a two-point lead (32-30).  

The Hornets would have the advantage one more time in the third at the 8:03 minute mark when Deyonce Thompson made a layup to push the team’s edge to 34-32. 

After Thompson’s score, Morgan State would have control of the lead for the rest of the quarter to head into the fourth with a 45-43 advantage.

Delaware State takes home a 57-53 victory!

The Hornets turned their game up to another level in the fourth quarter, as the team outscored the Bears 14-8 to seal a 57-53 victory. Deyonce Thompson and Kaitlyn Parker would serve up the highlights during this time.

DSU’s defense was solid during this period, as the unit had eight defensive rebounds, three blocks, and one steal.
