Delaware State softball sweeps Jefferson University

Delaware State takes a three-run lead in the third inning. 

The second game started with each team’s starting pitching off to a hot start as the two only combined to give up two hits after two innings of play.

DSU’s bats would wake up in the bottom of the third inning when the team scored three runs on three hits to take a 3-0 lead.

Emma Crowe would start the inning off by hitting a double to the left-center field. Two plays later, she would advance to third on a batted ball.

After a single by sophomore Utility player Kayla Lester, Crowe would go home on to give the Hornets a 1-0 advantage.

Two plays later, Graduate student Uxua Modrego Lopez blasted a two-run homer to push her DSU edge to 3-0.

Hornets lead cut to two runs after four innings of play. 

Jefferson would answer back in the top of the fourth inning when Claudia Alldred hit an RBI single to center to cut the score to 3-1.

DSU takes home a 4-2 victory!

Delaware State would add one more to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when sophomore first baseman Mikaela Francois hit an RBI single to the pitcher to extend her team’s advantage to 4-1.

The Rams would add another in the top of the sixth, but the Hornets would hold to win 4-2.

Senior starting pitcher Mayanah McIntosh had a solid stat line, as she went four innings and gave up five hits, one run, one earned run, two walks, and one strikeout.

 McKenzie Yurcaba would come in to relieve McIntosh, as she went three innings and gave up four hits, one run, one earned run, one walk, and four strikeouts.
