McKenna Frank pushes in 4 RBIs in Game Two as Goldey-Beacom earns a split versus Staten Island

The Goldey-Beacom College softball team picked up a split on Sunday in a doubleheader versus the Collge of Staten Island Dolphins. The Lightning lost their first game 11-10 and won their second 9-1.

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom leads by two runs after one inning of play. 

The Lightning would get the scoring started in this matchup, as they scored two runs on two hits in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.

GBC would start the inning off with a single, and then freshman Utility player McKenna Frank would slap an RBI double to left field to give her team a 1-0 lead. Then that would be followed up by junior infielder Bryn Bohmann grounding out to the shortstop, but she would push in a run to give her team a 2-0 edge.

The Lightning leads by five at the end of the second inning.

Goldey would continue to light up the scoreboard, as in the next inning, they would score three runs on three hits to push their lead to 5-0.

 McKenna Frank would push in her fourth RBI of the day in the second, as she would hit a three-run double to right center to extend her team’s advantage to five.

GBC would add three more runs in the third inning. 

There was no slowing down the Lightning hitters, as in the third inning, the team would score three runs on four hits and two errors to expand their lead to 8-0.

Freshman infielder  Samantha Guercia would push in the first run of the inning when she hit an RBI double to right center to give her team a 6-0 edge.

After a double happened on the next play, Guercia would go home on a muffed throw by Staten Island’s pitcher to push Goldey-Beacom’s lead to 7-0.

Senior outfielder Hannah Davis would come up to bat two plays later and slap an RBI single to left field to give the Lightning an 8-0 edge.

Goldey-Beacom’s takes home a 9-1 victory!

After getting silenced for three innings, the Dolphins would finally get a run on the board when Olivia Wanser blasted a solo home run to right center field to cut the score to 8-1 in the top of the fourth inning.

GBC would answer right back in the bottom of the fourth when Samantha Guercia hit an RBI single to left field to seal a 9-1 victory.

Pitching Recap:

The Lightning’s offense had a lot of firepower in the win, but junior starting pitcher Morgan McLane had the Staten Island hitters confused all day, as she went five innings, gave up three hits, one run, one earned run, two strikeouts, and hit two batters.
