Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom sends two runs home in the fifth inning to grab the lead.

Fans that like a pitching duel in a game were treated with one in the early innings of this matchup, as both team’s starting pitchers confused hitters for a full four innings. Kutztown’s Zach Male and the Lightning’s  Justin Jump gave up a combined three hits during this stretch.

That would all change in the bottom of the fifth inning, where GBC would get on the board as they scored two runs on three hits to take a 2-0 lead.

Senior infielder Darin Miller would start the inning off by getting on base and hitting a single. After two ground outs and a walk followed Miller’s hit, junior outfielder Matt Benner stepped to the plate and hit a two-out RBI single, which gave Goldey-Beacom a 1-0 edge.

Senior third baseman Kyle Walker would be next, as he would also push in a RBI single to extend his team’s advantage 2-0.

Justin Jump would continue to be dominant on the mound even after his lineup slowed down on scoring, as he would allow two more hits before his day was done after the top of the seventh inning.

Jump would exit with only allowing three hits in seven innings, two walks, eight strikeouts, and hit one batter.

Goldey’s bats would come alive in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the team scored eight runs on seven hits to expand their lead to 10-0.
