The University of Delaware baseball team earned a split on Saturday with a 10-7 to the Jacksonville University Dolphins in the first game but earned a 6-1 victory in the second. Let’s talk about the second game!

Blue Hens take a 6-1 lead in the first inning.
Delaware didn’t waste any time putting runs off the board in this game, as they scored six runs on five hits in the top of the first inning to give them a 6-0 lead.
Sophomore infielder Aiden Stewart would get the scoring started in the inning by hitting a solo home run to left to give his team a 1-0 lead.
Then, senior infielder Joey Loynd and senior Aidan Kane would follow up Stewart’s homer with a double and a walk.
Redshirt senior designated hitter Bryce Greenly would be the next up to the plate, and he would slap an RBI double to left field to give UD a 2-0 edge.
Junior outfielder Andrew Amato would kick the scoring up a notch as he blasted a three-run homer to left field to extend his team’s advantage to 5-0.
Redshirt senior outfielder Jake Dunion would follow Amato’s homer with one of his own, as Dunion would slap a solo bomb to center field to give the Hens a 6-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first inning, Jacksonville’s third baseman Tanner Zelle would cut the deficit by hitting an RBI single to make the score 6-1.
The Dolphins would score another run in the bottom of the second on Will Gale’s RBI single to left field to slice the score to 6-2.
UD takes a six-run lead after four innings.
The Blue Hens’ next big inning would be in the fourth, where the team scored four hits on five runs to take a 10-2 lead.
Junior infielder Chris Dengler would get the scoring started in the inning by hitting a three-run homer to center field to give his team a 9-2 edge.
Two batters later, Joey Loynd would come up to the plate and slap a two-out solo home run to left field to push Delaware’s advantage to 10-2.
Jacksonville would respond in the bottom of the fourth by scoring two runs on two hits to cut the score to 10-4.
The Blue Hens take home a 14-4 victory!
Fast forward to the top of the ninth inning, where the UD bats would wake up after a lull in the middle of the game, scoring four runs on four hits.
Andrew Amato would start the scoring in the ninth by hitting his second three-run homer of the game, which gave his team a 13-4 edge.
Four batters later, Redshirt junior Brett Lesher would finish the inning off by slapping an RBI single to left field to give the Hens a 14-4 win.
The hitting was the highlight of this game, but the pitching did its part in this one, too.
Starting pitcher freshman Tyler August had his rocky moments in this one, as he went 3.2 innings, and gave up eight hits, four runs, four earned runs, four walks, and five strikeouts.
Junior pitcher Ethan Shaub and Redshirt junior Eli Atiya would come in as relief, with the two combining to give up only one hit, four walks, and six strikeouts in the win.
