Goldey-Beacom leads by four at the end of the first quarter.
The game started with the Georgian Court taking a 6-3 lead with 7:40 remaining in the opening quarter.
Twenty-six seconds later, the Lightning would strike back by scoring six straight points to grab a 9-6 edge with 6:04 left in the first quarter.
Azuri Abraham was doing work during this stretch, as she had three points, a defensive rebound, and an assist.
The Lions would punch right back by outscoring GBC 13-4 to take a 19-13 advantage with 2:34 remaining in the opening quarter.
Goldey-Beacom would go on a scoring blitz for the rest of the first quarter, as the team went on a 13-3 run to grab a 26-22 lead heading into the second.
Janiya Stevens and Genesis Garcia would serve up scoring highlights during this time, as the duo scored seven of the team’s 13 points.
The Lightning would hold an eight-point lead at halftime.
GBC would start the second quarter on fire, as the team outscored Georgian Court 11-5 to push their edge to ten points (37-27).
Goldey’s defense was also a factor during this time, as the unit had three steals and three defensive rebounds. Rory Ciszkowski and Janiya Stevens were a hard duo for the Lions to stop during this stretch, scoring nine of the team’s 13 points.
Starting at the 4:27 minute mark, Georgian Court would claw back into the game by outscoring Goldey-Beacom 10-4 to narrow the score to four points (41-37).
The Lightning would hang on to their lead by going on a 6-2 run for the rest of the second quarter to push their advantage to 47-39. Four of the six points during that time came from the free-throw line.
GBC holds on to a one-point lead at the end of the third quarter.
In the third quarter, the Lions would outscore Goldey-Beacom 19-12 to tighten the lead to one point (59-58) heading into the fourth.
Turnovers would hurt the Lightning in third, as they gave the ball away seven times, and Georgian Court only coughed it up three.
Goldey-Beacom takes home an 80-72 win!
Fast forward to the 6:59 minute mark in the final quarter, where the Lions’ Imani Gillette would make a layup to give her team a 64-63 edge.
After losing the lead, GBC would answer back in a big way, as the team went on a 17-8 run to seal an 80-72 victory over Georgian Court.
Rory Ciszkowski, Karlee Lemon, and Janiya Stevens would be on fire during this stretch, as the trio scored 16 of the team’s 17 points.
