Ciszkowski and Stevens combine to score 44 points in Goldey-Beacom’s 77-69 overtime win over Caldwell

Goldey-Beacom leads by seven at the end of the first quarter.

The game started with the Lightning jumping out to a 9-2 lead with 5:24 remaining in the opening quarter. Farrah White did some work on both sides of the ball during this stretch, as she had two points, one steal, and two offensive rebounds.

Fast forward to the 1:22 minute mark, where Caldwell’s Shauntia Alexander hit two free throw shots to slice the deficit to four points (14-10).

Goldey-Beacom would end the quarter with the last bucket, as Rory Ciszkowski would drain a three-pointer to extend her team’s edge to 17-10.

The Lightning would trail by three points at the end of the first half.

In the early minutes of the second quarter, with a mix of the three-point shot and defense, GBC would push their advantage to ten points (26-16) with 6:11 left in the first half. Rory Ciszkowski and Azuri Abraham each drained a three-pointer during that time.

Goldey’s defense was also solid during that stretch, as the unit had four defensive rebounds and four blocks.

The Cougars would outscore the Lightning 19-6 for the rest of the second quarter to end with a 35-32 lead at halftime.

GBC leads by six points at the end of the third quarter.

Goldey-Beacom came out ready to strike in the early minutes of the second half, as the team went on a 12-2 run to grab a 44-37 edge with 7:04 remaining in the third quarter. Rory Ciszkowski and Janiya Stevens were on fire during this stretch as the duo scored all 12 of the team’s points.

Fast forward to the 2:58 minute mark, where Caldwell’s Amyah Bray would have a layup go in to slice the deficit to two points (47-45). 

The Lightning would score nine more points in the third to hold a six-point advantage (56-50) heading into the fourth quarter.

Goldey’s Steven’s free throws send the game into overtime.

The Cougars were ready to attack the basket in the early minutes of the fourth as the team went on an 11-2 run to take a 61-58 lead with 3:47 left in the game.

Caldwell would hold the lead for the minute and 46 seconds, but then Lucy Coogan would get a foul, and that would send GBC’s Janiya Stevens to the free-throw line to potentially tie the game at 63.

Stevens would go on and make those two free-throw shots and send the game into overtime.

Goldey-Beacom takes home a 77-69 overtime victory!

The Lightning would outscore the Cougars 14-7 in the overtime period to seal a 77-69 victory. Rory Ciszkowski and Azuri Abraham were a hard duo for Caldwell to stop during that time, as they scored 10 of the team’s 14 points.

Goldey Beacom’s defense was strong during that stretch, as the unit had six defensive rebounds, two blocks, and one steal.
