Wilmington University snaps a four-game losing streak with an 85-81 victory

Wilmington University holds a nine-point lead at the end of the first half. 

The game started with WimU jumping out to a 6-0 lead with 18:40 remaining in the first half. Amiri Stewart was doing work on both sides of the ball during this stretch as he scored two points, had one defensive rebound, and one steal.

A minute and 12 seconds later, Caldwell would answer by outscoring the Wildcats 12-5 to take a 12-11 edge with 14:11 left in the opening half. 

Fast forward to the 5:55 minute mark, where Caleb Matthews would drain a three-pointer to give Wilmington a 28-21 advantage.

The Cats would add 18 more points to their total for the rest of the first half to push their lead to 46-37.

Nalik Veasley, Taalib Holloman, and Caleb Matthews were a hard trio to stop during that time, as they scored 12 of the team’s 18 points.

WilmU takes home an 85-81 victory!

The Cougars came out in the early minutes of the second half ready to pounce, as the team outscored Wilmington 15-9 to slice the deficit to three points (55-52).

Fast forward to the 4:52 minute mark, where Taalib Holloman rocked the rim as he had a dunk go in to expand the Wildcats’ edge to 70-62.

Fifty-eight seconds later, Caldwell would punch back by going on an 8-4 run to cut the lead to three points (74-71) with 2:14 remaining in the second half.

Seconds later, WilmU would answer back by scoring five straight points to push their advantage to 79-71 with 1:21 left in the game.

Amiri Stewart had the hot touch during that time, as he scored four of the team’s five points.

Despite getting outscored 10-6 for the rest of the second half, the Wildcats would hang on to take an 85-81 victory over the Cougars.
