Christian Ray hits 1,000 point milestone in Blue Hens 84-80 win over Monmouth

The Blue Hens lead by four points at the end of the first half.

The game started with Delaware jumping out to a 7-4 lead with 16:22 remaining in the opening half.

UD’s lead would not last for long, as Monmouth answered back by scoring seven straight points to grab an 11-4 edge with 15:07 left in the first half. 

Eleven minutes and six seconds later, the Blue Hens would regain the lead as Christian Ray hit a jump shot to push his team’s edge to six points (35-29) with 4:01 remaining in the opening half. 

The University of Delaware would score seven more points for the rest of the first to head into halftime with a 42-38 advantage. Five of the seven points came from the free-throw line during that time.

Jalun Trent did some work during this stretch, as he had an assist and two blocks. 

Delaware takes home an 84-80 victory!

The Hawks would come out flying in the early minutes of the second half, as the team went on a 14-9 run to take a 52-51 lead with 15:05 remaining in the game.

It was a fight for the lead in the next five minutes and 95 seconds, and buckets would go back and forth between two teams, and no one grabbed more than a two-point advantage. 

At the 9:10 minute mark, UD would be the team to break up the back and forth, with Gerald Drumgoole Jr. draining a three-pointer to give his team a 65-62 edge.

Fast forward to the 2:55 minute mark, the Hens Jyáre Davis would have a layup go in to extend Delaware’s advantage to nine points (76-67).

Monmouth wasn’t going out without a fight, as seconds later, the team went on a 13-5 run to cut the deficit to one point (81-80) with two seconds left in the game.

The Blue Hens would end the game by draining three straight free throw shots to seal an 84-80 victory over the Hawks.
