Ja’Naiah Perkins-Jackson scores 23 points in Delaware State’s 61-49 victory over South Carolina State

Delaware State holds a two-point lead after one-quarter of play.

The intensity was high among the two teams as soon the tip commenced, as South Carolina and DSU would trade the lead all of the opening quarter until the Hornets ended with a two-point lead (11-9) heading into the second. 

Savannah Brooks was feeling it during that stretch, as she scored six of Delaware State’s 11 points.

The Hornets would lead by 17 at the end of the second quarter. 

DSU’s offense would start to roll in the second quarter, as the team outscored the Bulldogs 19-4 to take a 30-13 advantage at the end of the first half.

 Denijsha Wilson and Ja’Naiah Perkins-Jackson heated during that run, as the duo scored 11 of the team’s 19 points.

Delaware State’s defense also stepped up during that time, as the unit collected eight defensive rebounds, two blocks, and four steals.

Delaware State holds a seven-point lead at the end of the third quarter.

The second quarter might have been the Hornets’ time to shine, but South Carolina clawed back in the game in the third, as they outscored DSU 25-15 to pull the deficit to seven points ( 45-38) heading into the fourth. 

DSU takes home a 61-49 victory!

Despite having their lead cut to single digits, that would not dampen the spirits of the Hornets players, as they would open the final quarter with a 15-8 run to push their edge to 60-46 with 2:05 remaining in the game. 

The Bulldogs would have a hard time stopping Ja’Naiah Perkins-Jackson during that stretch, as she scored ten of the team’s 15 points. 

Delaware State would score one more point in the fourth to seal a 61-49 victory over South Carolina State.
