Martaz Robinson scores 24 points in Delaware State’s 67-63 overtime win over Maryland Eastern Shore

Delaware State holds a 17-point lead at the end of the first half. 

The game started with the Hornets grabbing a 16-7 lead with 10:47 left in the opening half. Deywilk Tavarez and Martaz Robinson brought the fireworks during that stretch, as the duo scored ten of the team’s 16 points.

DSU’s offense would continue to have the pedal to metal for the rest of the first half, as they would score 19 more points to push their advantage to 35-18 at halftime. Jevin Muniz and Tavarez would have plenty of highlights during that run, as the duo scored 13 of the team’s 19 points.

The Hornets pushed the game into overtime!

UMES would come out a different team in the early minutes of the second from the first, as they outscored Del State 30-12 to take a 48-47 lead with 5:07 remaining in the game.

In the next three minutes and 86 seconds, the Hornets would hold a slim lead once, and the score would be tied three times during that stretch. 

The last bucket during that time would be from DSU’s Martaz Robinson, who hit a free throw to tie the game at 54 with 48 seconds left in the second half. 

Twenty-six seconds later, Troy Hupstead would have a layup go in to give the Shore Hawks a two-point edge (56-54). 

Jevin Muniz would be the hero for the Hornets at the end of regulation, as he made a layup with five seconds left in the game to tie the score at 56 and send it into overtime.

DSU takes home a 67-63 overtime victory!

Delaware State would start the overtime period by draining four shots from the free throw line to give them a 60-56 advantage with 3:45 left in the game. 

UMES would punch right back by scoring four straight points of their own to tie the game at 60 with 3:04 remaining in overtime. 

The Hornets would outscore the Shore Hawks 7-3 for the rest of the game to seal a 67-63 overtime victory.
