Derry & Marsh combine for 42 points in Goldey-Beacom’s 87-79 win over Bridgeport

Goldey-Beacom holds a 19-point lead at the end of the first half.

The game started with Bridgeport taking a 5-2 lead with 17:58 left in the opening half.

Twenty seconds later, the Lightning would answer back by outscoring the Purple Knights 29-11 to grab a 31-16 advantage with 6:42 remaining in the first half. Nazim Derry and Caleb Bates were feeling it during that stretch, as the duo scored 19 of the team’s 29 points.

GBC’s defense also stepped up during the run, as the unit collected five defensive rebounds and seven steals.

Goldey would continue to pour on the points for the rest of the first half, as they scored 16 more points to push their edge to 47-28 at halftime.

Zayon Marsh and Derry were commanding the offense during that stretch, as they scored 14 of the team’s 16 points.

The Lightning takes home an 87-79 victory!

Fast forward to the 14:38 minute mark, Cardin Joubert would drain a three-pointer to expand Goldey-Beacom’s lead to 21 points (62-41).

Seventeen seconds later, Bridgeport would claw back into the game by going on a 20-7 run to slice the deficit to eight points (69-61) with 8:51 remaining in the second half. 

Four minutes and 22 seconds later, the Purple Knights would continue to cut into GBC’s advantage when D’Andre Collins hit a jump shot to make it a five-point game (75-70) with 4:29 left in the second half.

The Lightning would not lose the lead as the team scored 12 more points for the rest of the game to seal an 87-79 victory over the Purple Knights.
