The Wilmington University men’s basketball team earned their ninth win of the season on Monday with a 78-66 victory over the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds.
Graduate student Caleb Matthews led the team in scoring in the win with 16 points.
Three other Wilmington players who scored in double digits in the win were junior center Nalik Veasley (11), senior guard Amiri Stewart (10), and sophomore guard Marcus Pierce (12).
Veasley had quite the night; he had nine rebounds, one assist, and seven blocks with his 11 points.
WilmU had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included bench points (34-31), points in the paint (32-30), assists (19-14), and blocks (8-4).
Wilmington University also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 46.6%(27-58) and the University of the District of Columbia shooting 32.9%(23-70). The Wildcats were also the better team at the three-point line in this game, as the team shot 43.5%(10-23), and the Firebirds shot 23.1%(3-13).WilmU also had the advantage at the free-throw line, as the team shot 82.4%(14-17), and UDC shot 68.0%(17-25).
