The University of Delaware men’s basketball team earned their ninth win of the season on Thursday with an 80-53 win over the Hampton University Pirates.
Senior forward Jyáre Davis led the team in scoring in the win with 17 points.
Three other Hens players who scored in double-digits were senior guard Niels Lane (15), fifth-year guard Jalun Trent (13), and Graduate Student guard Gerald Drumgoole Jr. (14).
Fifth-year guard Christian Ray was locked on all the boards all night, as he collected 13 rebounds.
Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (46-20), points off of turnovers (17-14), second-chance points (14-6), fast-break points (17-7), rebounds (40-33), assists (12-11), turnovers (10-13), blocks (5-2), and steals (7-6).
UD also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 49.2 % (31-63) and Hampton shooting 30.5 %(18-59). The Blue Hens also bested the Pirates from the three-point line, with the team shooting 30.0 %(6-20) and Hampton shooting 22.2 % (6-27). Delaware was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 92.3 %(12-13), and the Pirates shot 64.7 % (11-17).
