Tyshonne Tollie scores 22 points as Delaware State defeats in-state rival the Blue Hens 69-66

Delaware State would hold a two-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

The game started with DSU striking with a 5-0 lead with 8:07 left in the opening quarter. Tyshonne Tollie and Denijsha Wilson scored all five points for the team on the run.

UD would come flying back as seconds later, they would score six straight points to take a 6-5 edge with 7:02 remaining in the first period. 

For the rest of the first quarter, the Hornets would outscore the Blue Hens 12-9 to grab a 17-15 advantage heading into the second. Savannah Brooks and Tollie were a hard duo for the University of Delaware to sop during this stretch, as the duo scored ten of the team’s 12 points.

Hornets would end the second quarter with a two-point lead.

Fast forward to the 5:11 minute mark in the second quarter, where Denijsha Wilson would drain a three-point shot to push Del State’s lead to seven points (32-25).

Eighty-seven seconds later, the Hens would punch back by dashing off on a 7-1 run to cut the deficit to one point (33-32) with 2:51 left in the first half.

At the end of the first half, Senior guard Ja’Naiah Perkins-Jackson hit a jump shot to give DSU a 37-35 advantage.

DSU would trail by five points at the end of the third quarter. 

The Blue Hens came out swinging in the early minutes of the second half, as the team outscored Delaware State 14-7 to take a 49-44 edge with 3:40 remaining in the third quarter. UD made four shots from the three-point line during that run.

Fast forward to the 2:11 minute mark, Tyshonne Tollie would hit a jump shot to tie the game at 49. 

The University of Delaware would go on an 8-3 run for the rest of the third to take a 57-52 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Delaware State takes home a 69-66 win!!

DSU would put the pedal to metal in the fourth, as they outscored the Blue Hens 17-9 to seal a 69-66 victory. Tyshonne Tollie and Denijsha Wilson had command of the offense during this stretch, as the duo scored 12 of the team’s 17 points.

The Hornets’ defense also stepped up in the final quarter, as the unit recorded eight defensive rebounds, three steals, and one block.
