Wilmington University wins fourth straight game with 92-83 overtime victory over Queens College

Wilmington University ended the first half with a nine-point lead.

The game started with WilmU jumping out to a 16-6 lead with 14 minutes remaining in the opening half. Amiri Stewart was in control of the offense during that stretch, as he scored eight of the team’s 14 points.

Fast forward to the 4:55 minute mark, where Queens College Sunnie Diamond drained a jump shot to slice the deficit to five points (35-30).

Seconds later, the Wildcats would answer back by outscoring the Knights 10-6 for the rest of the first half to push their edge to 45-36. Caleb Matthews, Ash Kemble, and Lameen Carter all came up big for Wilmington during that time, as the trio scored all ten points.

WilmU won the turnover battle in the first half as they only had three, and Queen’s College had six.

Queen’s College would push Wilmington into overtime play.

The Wildcats would strike first in the second half, as the team went on a 12-7 run to take a 57-43 advantage with 16:09 left in the game. Taalib Holloman and Skip Burton would take command during that stretch, as the duo scored eight of the team’s 12 points.

Starting at the 14:38 minute mark, Queens College would claw back in this match by outscoring Wilmington 10-2 to cut the deficit to six points with 11:41 left in the second half. 

Eight minutes and 25 seconds later, Amiri Stewart would get a layup to go in to expand WilmU’s lead to 70-62 with 6:13 remaining in the game.

Unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn’t hold their advantage, as the Knights would outscore them 19-11 to push the game into overtime with the score all tied up at 81. Malik Bentinck would hit the game-tying point for Queen’s College with one second left in the second half.

Wilmington lost the turnover battle in the second half, as they had six, and the Knights had four.

Wilmington takes home a 92-83 overtime victory!

WilmU would come out fast in the early minutes of overtime, as the team went on a 10-0 to grab a 91-81 advantage with 49 seconds left in the game. Skip Burton, Amiri Stewart, and Nalik Veasley led the charge, scoring all ten points during that stretch.

The Wildcats would score one more point in the period to seal a 92-83 overtime victory over Queen’s College.
