Three Blue Hens score in double-digits in 73-69 victory over Robert Morris

Blue Hens hold an eight-point lead at the end of the first half.

The game started with Delaware jumping out to a 6-2 lead with 18:06 left in the opening half. Christian Ray was doing work on both sides of the ball during that stretch, as he scored two points and had a steal.

UD wouldn’t slow down after that early run, as seconds later, they would go on to outscore Robert Morris 14-7 to push their edge to 20-9 with 11:03 remaining in the first half. Sophomore guard Cavan Reilly, Ray, and Jyáre Davis had the magic touch during that time, as the trio scored 11 of the team’s 14 points.

The Hens’ defense was solid during the run, as they collected seven rebounds and had one steal. 

Fast forward to the 6:43 minute mark, where the Colonials’ Justice Williams drained a jump shot to cut the score to one point (22-21).

The Blue Hens would not let go of the lead, as the team would go on a 16-9 run to end the first half with a 38-30 advantage. Senior guard Niels Lane and sophomore forward Tyler Houser were commanding the offense during that stretch, as the duo scored nine of the team’s 16 points.

Delaware takes home a 73-69 win!

Robert Morris would come out in the early minutes of the second half with a little more extra first than the first, as the team outscored the University of Delaware 19-12 to slice the lead to two points (51-49) with 9:20 left in the game.

Starting at the 8:15 minute mark, the Hens would punch back, as they went on a 9-2 run to expand their edge to 60-51 with 3:27 remaining in the second half. Gerald Drumgoole Jr. contributed to both sides of the ball during that time, as he scored three points, had one defensive rebound, and a block.

UD’s defense would be one of the key parts of the run, as they had one block, five defensive rebounds, and one steal.

The Colonials would make the end of the game interesting as they would pull the lead within two points (71-69) with 12 seconds left of the second period. 

Delaware would hold on to win 73-69 as Christian Ray would drain two free-throw shots with seconds remaining in the game.
