Blue Hens lead by four at the end of the fourth quarter.
The game would start with Delaware jumping out to an 8-4 lead with 7:20 left in the opening quarter. UD’s defense was solid during this time, as they had two defensive rebounds and one steal.
Seconds later, Vermont would answer right back with a 7-0 run, giving the team an 11-8 edge with 5:44 remaining in the first quarter.
Fifteen seconds later, the Blue Hens would outscore the Catamounts 9-2 to end the opening quarter with a 17-13 advantage. Tara Cousins would score with ease during this stretch as she scored eight of the team’s 9 points.
The University of Delaware’s defense stepped up during the run, as the unit had four defensive rebounds, one block, and one steal.
The University of Delaware would lead by nine points at the end of the first half.
Delaware would continue to have the momentum in the early minutes of the second quarter, as the team went on a 15-7 run to extend their lead to 32-20 with 3:57 left in the first half. Freshman center Ande’a Cherisier and Chloe Wilson had the hot touch during this stretch as the duo scored 11 of the Hens’ 15 points.
For the rest of the second quarter, Vermont would outscore UD 6-3 to slice the deficit to nine points (35-26) at the end of the first half.
Delaware would lead by six points at the end of the third quarter.
Fast forward to the 6:45 minute mark in the third quarter, where sophomore guard Nakiyah Mays-Prince would drain a three-point shot to push the Blue Hens lead 45-33.
For the rest of the third quarter, the Catamounts would outscore UD 11-5 to cut the deficit to six points (50-44).
UD takes home a 73-66 victory!
Fast forward to the 3:36 minute mark in the fourth quarter, where Sydney Boone drained a three-point shot, and then almost a minute later, Tara Cousins would also make a three-pointer to give Delaware a 69-55 lead with 2:53 remaining in the game.
Vermont would outscore UD 11-4 for the rest of the game, but the Blue Hens would hold on to take home a 73-66 victory.
