Wilmington University would end the first half with a 20-point lead.
The game started with WilmU jumping out to a quick 9-0 lead with 15:47 left in the opening half. Taalib Holloman and Nalik Veasley had no trouble finding the basket during that stretch, as the duo scored all nine points.
Twenty-seven seconds later, Molloy would fight back by outscoring the Wildcats 13-7 to cut the deficit to three points (16-13) with 9:15 remaining in the first half.
Then, at the 7:59 minute mark, the Lions would get their first lead of the game when Billy Reyes had a layup go in to bring the score to 18-17.
Fifty seconds later, Wilmington University would grind Molloy’s newfound momentum to a halt as the team went on a 23-2 run to end the opening half with a 40-20 advantage. Taalib Holloman and Kaleb Hedgepeth would score 13 of the team’s 23 points during that stretch.
WilmU’s defense also stepped up during the run, as they had four steals, two blocks, and seven defensive rebounds.
WilmU takes home an 83-67 victory!!
Fast forward to the 9:28 minute mark in the second half, where sophomore guard Skip Burton would hit a layup to push the Cats’ edge to 24 points (67-43).
Wilmington would add 16 more points to their score for the rest of the game to seal an 83-67 victory over Molloy.
