Bates & Derry combine for 42 points in Goldey-Beacom’s 88-66 win over Mercy

The Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team earned their second win of the season on Saturday with an 88-66 victory over the Mercy University Mavericks.

 Sophomore forward Caleb Bates and senior guard Nazim Derry led the team in scoring with 21 points. Bates also recorded a double-double in the game with 13 rebounds with his 21 points.

Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were senior guard Ayshion Centeno (14) and senior guard Damani Thomas (15).

The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points off of turnovers (27-12), fast-break points (11-5), bench points (26-6), assists (21-12), turnovers (13-22), blocks (3-1), and steals (16-4).

Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 47.1% (33-70) and Mercy shooting 31.6%(24-76). The Lightning also bested the Mavericks from the three-point line, with the team shooting 38.7%(12-31) and Mercy shooting 17.4% (4-23).
