The University of Delaware women’s basketball team opened up the 2023 season on Thursday with an 81-55 victory over the Longwood University Lancers.
Senior forward Chloe Wilson led the Blue Hens in scoring in the win with 18 points. Wilson also recorded a double-double in the victory by collecting 12 rebounds with her 18 points.
She wasn’t the only Hens player to earn a double-double on the night as freshman forward Darrionna Howard notched 13 points with 12 rebounds.
Three other Hens players who scored in double-digits were senior guard Tara Cousins (12), junior guard Sydney Boone, and freshman center Ande’a Cherisier (13).
Fifth-year center Klarke Sconiers rounded out the night with ten rebounds.
UD had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (48-22), points off of turnovers (20-17), second-chance points (16-4), bench points (26-16), rebounds (56-39), assists (17-8), and blocks (2-1).
Delaware also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 48.6 % (34-70) and Longwood shooting 29.6 % ( 21-71).
