Davis records double-double as Blue Hens open the 2023 season with a 78-57 win over Bucknell

The University of Delaware men’s basketball team opened the 2023 season on Monday with a dominating 78-57 victory over the Bucknell University Bison.

Senior forward Jyáre Davis led the Blue Hens in scoring with 21 points. Davis also recorded a double-double in the win, as he had ten rebounds with his 21 points.

Four other Hens players who scored in double-digits were sophomore guard Cavan Reilly (18), senior guard Niels Lane (13), Graduate Student guard Gerald Drumgoole Jr. (11), and sophomore forward Tyler Houser.

Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (24-22), points off of turnovers (20-17), second chance points (15-4), bench points (22-13), rebounds (41-31), assists (15-12), turnovers (14-15), and blocks (5-2).

UD also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 50.9 % (27-53) and Bucknell shooting 38.9%(21-54). The Blue Hens also bested the Bison from the three-point line, with the team shooting 43.5 %(10-23) and Bucknell shooting 35.7 % (10-28). Delaware was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 50.0 %(14-28), and the Bison shot 38.5 % (5-13).
