Alyssa Ruggeri scores twice as Wilmington University secures CACC first-round home game in win over Felician

The Wilmington University women’s soccer team earned their tenth win of the season on Saturday with a 3-0 win versus the Felician University Golden Falcons. With the win, WilmU locks up one of the top spots in the CACC tournament, which means the Wildcats host a game in the first round.

The standouts in the game for the Wildcats were redshirt freshman forward Evelyn Payne,, junior forward Alyssa Ruggeri, freshman forward Amelia Aquino, junior defender Brianna Wons , sophomore defender Gabbi Corchiani, sophomore goalkeeper Nadine Robberts,  junior goalkeeper Mio Nakajima, and freshman goalkeeper Arianna Myers.

Payne had five shots, one shot at the goal, and scored one goal in the game.

Ruggeri had ten shots, eight shots at the goal, and scored two games in the win.

Amelia Aquino had one shot, and one assist in the victory.

Wons had one assist in the game.

Robberts allowed zero goals in 15 minutes and 22 seconds and had two saves in the match.

Nakajima allowed zero goals in 68 minutes and 39 seconds and had one save in the win.

Myers allowed zero goals in five minutes and 59 seconds and had one save in the victory.

Wilmington would hold a one-goal lead at the end of the first half.

In this match, the first score of the game would not be until the 35th-minute mark, when WilmU’s Evelyn Payne would find the back of the net to give her team a 1-0 lead. Amelia Aquino would assist on Payne’s scoring play.

The Cats would outshoot the Golden Falcons 11-5 in the first half of the game.

The Wildcats would add two more goals in the second half to seal their 3-0 victory!

Unlike the first half, the scoring would come faster in the second, as at the 55-minute mark, Alyssa Ruggeri would push the ball in for a goal to extend her team’s edge to 2-0. Gabbi Corchiani would assist on Ruggeri’s scoring play.

At the 64-minute mark, Alyssa Ruggeri would score her second goal of the match to seal a 3-0 win over Felician. Brianna Wons assisted on Ruggeri’s scoring play.

Wilmington outshot the Golden Falcons 12-5 in the second half of the game.
