Wilmington University takes care of #24 Mercy with a 4-1 victory

The Wilmington University men’s soccer team earned their fifth win of the season on Wednesday with a 4-1 win over the Mercy University Mavericks.

The standouts in the game for the Wildcats were junior forward Sora Noda,  sophomore midfielder Tyrese Small, senior midfielder Yohan Kim, Graduate student forward Troy Paul,  senior defender Max Norden, freshman midfielder Caesar Knapp, and freshman goalkeeper Charlie Phillips.

Noda had one shot, one shot at the goal, and scored one goal in the win.

Small had three shots, two shots at the goal, and scored one goal in the victory.

Kim had two shots, two shots at the goal, and had two assists in the game.

Paul had four shots, three shots at the goal, and scored one goal in the win.

Norden had two shots, and two assists in the victory.

Knapp had two shots, two shots at the goal, and scored one goal in the game.

Phillips allowed one goal in 90 minutes and had four saves in the win.

The score would be tied at one at halftime.

It wouldn’t be until the 15-minute mark in the opening half that the scoreboard would light up with a goal, as it was in Mercy’s favor with Julian Holland finding the back of the net to give his team a 1-0.

Fifteen minutes later, Wilmington would answer with a score of their own when Sora Noda blasted the ball into the net to tie the game at one. Yohan Kim and Max Norden would assist on Noda’s scoring play.

Wilmington would score three goals in the second half to take home a 4-1 win!

It would not take long to see a score in the second half, as WilmU’s Max Norden would find his teammate Caesar Knapp, who knocked the ball under the crossbar to give his team a 2-1 lead at the seventh-minute mark.

Nine minutes later, Troy Paul would blast the ball into the net from 20 yards out to extend the Wildcats’ edge to 3-1.

Six minutes later, Yohan Kim sent the ball near the right of the far post, and Tyrese Small got the goal by heading it in the net to seal the Cats’ 4-1 win.

Wilmington outshot the Mavericks 17-9 in the victory.
