Hannesbo scores two goals in Wilmington University’s 5-2 win over Dominican

The Wilmington University men’s soccer team earned their fourth win of the season on Saturday with a 5-2 victory over the Dominican University Chargers.

The standouts in the game for the Wildcats were sophomore midfielder Tyrese Small, sophomore midfielder Malthe Hannesbo, Graduate student forward Troy Paul, Graduate student midfielder Jeremie Briquet ,  junior midfielder Diego Ramirez, freshman midfielder Caesar Knapp, and freshman goalkeeper Charlie Phillips.

Small had five shots, three shots at the goal, and one assist in the win.

Hannesbo had six shots, four shots at the goal, scored two goals, and had two assists in the game.

Paul had three shots, two shots at the goal, and scored one goal in the victory.

Briquet had seven shots, four shots at the goal, and scored one goal in the win.

Ramirez had one assist in the game.

Knapp had two shots, two shots at the goal, and scored one goal in the victory.

Phillips allowed two goals in 90 minutes and had four saves in the win.

Wilmington leads by one goal at the end of the first half.

The scoring didn’t happen right away in this matchup, but around the 13th-minute mark, Tyrese Small would play the ball forward to Malthe Hannesbo, who blasted a 20-yard shot past the Dominican’s goalie to give WilmU a 1-0 lead.

Twelve minutes later, Marouf Barry would knock in a goal for the Chargers to tie the game at one.

Seconds later, the Wildcats’ great defense would help lead to a score, as Diego Ramirez would steal the ball and then played it forward to Hannesbo, who would find Caesar Knapp and he pushed the ball in from the near post to give Wilmington a 2-1 edge at the end of the first half.

Fast forward to the 52nd-minute mark, where Malthe Hannesbo would score his second goal of the day to extend the Cats’ advantage to 3-1.

Sixteen minutes later, Dominican would tighten the score when Armindo Ferreira found the back of the net to make the score 3-2.

At the 78th-minute mark, Jeremie Briquet would give his team a little breathing room in the score as he blasted the ball by the Dominican’s goalie to give Wilmington a 4-2 lead. Diego Ramirez assisted on Briquet’s scoring play.

The Wildcats would add one more goal to their name at the 88-minute mark when Troy Paul knocked the ball into the net to seal a 5-2 victory over the Chargers.
