Delaware State snaps four-game losing streak with 48-10 win over Virginia Lynchburg

The Delaware State University’s football team snapped their four-game losing streak to start the season on Saturday with the team demolishing the Virginia University of Lynchburg Dragons 48-10.

The offensive standouts in the game for the Hornets were Redshirt freshman quarterback Marqui Adams, redshirt sophomore Marquis Gillis, junior tight end EJ Core, sophomore wide receiver Rahkeem Smith, redshirt sophomore wide receiver Konner Blount-Foster, and Graduate student quarterback Aaron Angelos.

Adams completed 12 of his 17 passes for 197 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions in the game.

Gillis rushed for 102 yards on 16 carries in the win.

Core had rushed for one yard on one carry with one touchdown in the victory.

Smith had four receptions for 67 yards with one touchdown in the win.

Blount-Foster had one reception for one yard with one touchdown in the game.

Angelos completed two of his six passes for four yards with one touchdown in the win.

On the defensive side, Redshirt junior Charles Brown, Jr. was flying all over the field today, as he led the team in tackles with seven. The Hornets smothered the Dragons quarterback, as the team racked up five sacks in the game. The sacks came from junior defensive lineman Eric Montes (2.5), junior defensive lineman Darren Cook (1.5), and freshman defensive lineman Justin Gaskins (1). Cook also had forced a fumble in the win. Redshirt senior defensive back Romell Harris-Freeman had a big day, as he had two tackles, two interceptions, and one pick-six the game.
