Wilmington University picks up their third victory of the season with a 5-1 win over Bloomfield

The Wilmington University women’s soccer team earned their third win of the season on Saturday with a 5-1 victory over the Bloomfield College Bears.

The standouts in the game for the Wildcats were junior midfielder Anna Ljuljic , redshirt sophomore midfielder Manuela Restrepo, junior midfielder Julia Yuhase , junior defender Alicia Whyte, junior defender Brianna Wons , freshman forward Sharon Freire Omonigho , junior goalkeeper Mio Nakajima, and freshman goalkeeper Arianna Myers .

Ljuljic had one shot, one shot at the goal, scored one goal, and had one assist in the win.

Restrepo had four shots, two shots at the goal, and one assist in the game.

Yuhase had two shots, one shot at the goal, and scored one goal in the victory.

Whyte had two shots, two shots at the goal, scored one goal, and had one assist in the win.

Wons had four shots, one shot at the goal, scored one goal, and one assist in the game.

Freire Omonigho had one shot, one shot at the goal, and scored one goal in the victory.

Nakajima allowed zero goals in 73 minutes and had two saves in the game.

Myers allowed one goal in 17 minutes and had two saves in the game.

Wilmington scored two goals in the first half of the game.

The Wildcats came out firing in the early minutes of this game, as Bloomfield’s goalkeeper would stop three of the shots, but a couple minutes the scoreboard would change in their favor.

The scoring play happened around the 20-minute mark when Manuela Restrepo from the back line kicked the ball over defenders to a wide-open Julia Yuhase, who darted near the goal and blasted a low shot past the Bears goalkeeper to give Wilmington a 1-0 lead.

Thirteen minutes later, the Wildcats would find the net once again, as Anna Ljuljic from the logo in midfield would find a charging Alicia Whyte, who bounced around the goalie and would get an easy score to put WilmU up 2-0.

The Cats would continue to roll in the second half, as their first score would come at the 51st-minute mark when Brianna Won got the rebound off of Emilie Larsen’s shot and fired it to Sharon Freire Omonigho, who blasted the ball to the back of the net to extend her team’s edge to 3-0.

Three minutes later, Alicia Whyte from midfield would find Anna Ljuljic, who would fire the ball past the goalie to push Wilmington’s advantage to 4-0.

About a minute later, Bloomfield would get their first goal of the game to cut the score to 4-1.

WilmU wasn’t done scoring just yet, as in the last minutes of the game, Brianna Wons would knock a goal in to seal a 5-1 victory over the Bears.
