Manuela Restrepo records a hat trick in Wilmington University’s 4-2 win over Post

The Wilmington University women’s soccer team picked up their second victory of the season on Saturday with a 4-2 win over the Post University Eagles.

The standouts in the game for the Wildcats were redshirt sophomore midfielder Manuela Restrepo, redshirt freshman Evelyn Payne, and senior forward Rockesha Dayes, junior forward Emilie Larsen, and goalkeeper Mio Nakajima.

Restrepo had eight shots, seven shots at the goal, and scored three goals in the game.

Payne had one shot, one shot at the goal, and scored one goal in the win.

Dayes had one shot and one assist in the game.

Larsen had three shots, two shots at the goal, and one assist in the win.

Nakajima allowed two goals in 90 minutes and had five saves in the game.

The score would be tied at one after one half of play.

Wilmington University would get the action started in this game, as Evelyn Payne drove the ball in the box and was so close to getting a chance to score, but before that happened, Post’s goalkeeper tripped her, which would set up the penalty kick.

Manuela Restrepo would step up for the penalty kick and would blast it in the net to give her team a 1-0 lead at the ten-minute mark in the first half.

Twenty-three minutes later, Post would fight back with a score of their own to tie the game at one at the end of the first half.

Wilmington scores three goals in the second half to seal a 4-2 victory!

In the second half, the scoreboard would not light up another goal until 24 minutes into the period. The Wildcats would be the team to add another goal to their name, as the score came through another penalty kick.

Manuela Restrepo would get her second penalty kick through the net of the day to give her team a 2-1 lead at the 69-minute mark in the second period.

Four minutes later, Restrepo would be at again when she knocked the ball over the Eagles goalkeeper and under the crossbar to earn a hat trick on the day and to push WilmU’s edge to 3-1. Rockesha Dayes and Emilie Larsen would assist with Resterpo’s score.

Seconds later, Post would answer back with a goal of their own when Tassia Ferreira found the back of the net to slice the lead to 3-2.

Wilmington would score one last goal around the last minute of the game when Evelyn Payne raced down the field to knock the ball in the net to seal a 4-2 victory over the Eagles.
