Wilmington University baseball picks up a split versus Goldey-Beacom

 The Wilmington University baseball team earned a split versus the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning on Saturday with a 17-0 loss in Game One and a 5-4 win in the second match.

Game Recap:

Wilmington University trails by three runs at the end of the second inning.

Goldey-Beacom would light up the scoreboard first in the second game of the doubleheader as Darin Miller would push in a run with a sac fly to give his team a 1-0 edge in the top of the first inning.

The Wildcats would answer back in the bottom of the inning when sophomore infielder Tyler Pirrung pushed in a run with a Sac bunt to tie the game at one.

The Lightning would grab a three-run (4-1) lead in the top of the second inning when Christian Petrillo hit a two-run triple to left center and then scored on a wild pitch.

The Wildcats would trail by two runs at the end of the fourth inning.

WilmU would cut the deficit to two runs (4-2) in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Junior outfielder AJ Tropiano smoked a RBI single to left field.

Wilmington University takes home a 5-4 victory!

Wilmington continued to claw back into this game in the bottom of the sixth inning, where the team scored three runs on four hits to take a 5-4 lead.

AJ Tropiano would record his second RBI of the game when he pushed a run home with a single through the right side to slice the score to 4-3.

Two batters later, Freshman designated hitter Garrett Quinn would get a run home when he reached first base on a fielder’s choice to tie the game at four.

Junior outfielder Shawn Edevane would give the Wildcats the lead in the inning as he hit an RBI bunt single to third base to give the team a 5-4 advantage.

Pitching Recap:

Sophomore starting pitcher Steve Schenning went two innings, gave up three hits, four runs, and four earned runs.

The bullpen consisted of three relievers, who combined to give up one walk and struck out three batters.

Senior pitcher Justin Barcoski went 0.1 innings and earned the win.

Senior pitcher Dom Grady closed out the game, as he went one inning, gave up one walk, struck out one batter, and earned the save.
