Goldey-Beacom dominates Lincoln (PA) 11-4

The Goldey-Beacom College baseball team earned its 19th win of the season on Tuesday with an 11-4 victory over the Lincoln University (PA) Lions.

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom leads by four runs at the end of the second inning.

Lincoln would get on the board first in this game, as SAC Fly would give them a 1-0 edge in the opening inning.

The Lightning responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring four runs on four hits, and two errors.

Freshman pitcher/infielder Shawn Roy would tie the game when he scored on a throwing error by the Lions catcher.

Three plays later, senior catcher Joey Current hit a two-out RBI single to give the Lightning a 2-1 advantage.

Sophomore infielder Zach Smethers came up to the plate next and smoked a two-out, two-run homer to left field to put the score at 4-1.

In the bottom of the second inning, Junior infielder Bobby Stewart pushed in a run with a SAC Fly to give Goldey-Beacom a 5-1 lead.

The Lightning takes home an 11-4 win!

Lincoln would cut the deficit to 5-3 at the top of the third with two RBI doubles.

The Lightning punched back in the bottom of the third by scoring four runs on four hits and two errors to take a 9-3 edge.

Joey Current started the scoring by scampering home when the Lions’ shortstop had a throwing error.

Then sophomore infielder Brent Williams, Shawn Roy, and sophomore outfielder Tyee Irving each had an RBI double in the inning.

Shawn Roy continued his hot day in the seventh inning by knocking home a RBI single through the right side, and Sophomore catcher/infielder Jake Macey pushed in a run with a SAC Fly to take GBC’s advantage to 11-3.

The Lions would score one more run in the top of the ninth, but Goldey-Beacom would still take home an 11-4 victory.

Senior pitcher Kory Williams earned the win by pitching eight innings, giving up five hits, three runs, three earned runs, three walks, and 12 strikeouts.
