Our 2025-2026 season player review series continues with Delaware Tech’s women’s basketball Freshman Kai Burnette.
Burnette led the team in scoring this season with 18.5 points per game.
When Delaware Tech needed a bucket this season, the Smyrna High alum was the one they looked for, as she scored double-digits in 23 games. She recorded ten games when she hit the 20 mark. Burnette also recorded two games where she posted 30 points.
The Freshman’s season-high in points came in the December 16th 71-56 win over Raritan Valley, where she posted 31 points. She made 10 of her 26 shots and drained five of her 11 shots from the three-point line in that win. The Del-Tech player also hit six of her nine free-throw shots in the victory.
Scoring isn’t the only elite skill of Burnette’s game, as she was second on the team this year in rebounds with 6.8. She had 20 games in which she collected five or more rebounds. The Delaware Tech freshman also had two games where she registered 10 or more rebounds. Her season-high in rebounds was 14 in a 68-63 win over Raritan Valley. She also had two double-doubles this season with rebounds and points.
Burnette knows how to score, but the freshman also knows how to get her teammates involved, as she led the team this season in assists with 4.9. She posted eight games where the Smyrna native dished out seven or more assists. Kai also had two games this season where she dished out 10 or more assists. Her season-high in assists came in the November 22nd game versus Lackawanna, where she had 11 assists.

On February 19th, in the 70-45 win over Anne Arundel Community College, Burnette showed why she is one of the rising stars in the college game in Delaware, posting a triple-double with scoring 23 points, collecting rebounds, and dishing out ten assists.
Offense wasn’t the only elite part of her game, as she was one to watch on defense as well, leading the team in steals this season with 4.3. She had eight games where she swiped over six steals. Her season-high in steals was eight, which she recorded three times.
The opposing shooters definitely did not want to see Burnette on defense, as she was second on the team in blocks in the year with 0.7. The Delaware Tech freshman had five games where she posted two or more blocks. Her season-high in blocks came on January 6th versus Howard Community College, where she recorded three.
