The Delaware State University women’s basketball team earned its sixth win of the season on Thursday with a dominating 71-38 victory over the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs.
Freshman guard Nevaeh Reaves led DSU in scoring in the win, scoring 16 points.
Freshman center Liliana Harrison recorded a double-double in the game, scoring 10 points and collecting ten rebounds.
Three other DSU players who scored in double-digits were Sophomore forward Ericka Huggins (11), Junior guard Jermesha Frierson (11), and Freshman guard Amya Scott (12).
Delaware State had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (38-22), fast-break points (19-5), points off turnovers (23-10), turnovers (22-31), blocks (6-0), steals (15-9), and assists (14-2).
DSU also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 42%(27-64) and South Carolina State shooting 25 %(14-55). Delaware State also outshot the Bulldogs from the three-point line, with the team shooting 33 % (7-21) and SCS shooting 20 % (2-10). The Hornets also had the advantage of the free-throw line shooting 63% (10-16, and the Lady Bulldogs had 62% (8-13).

The Hornets came out buzzing as soon as this game started, as the team jumped off to a 12-0 lead with 7:43 left in the opening period. Nevaeh Reaves, Jermesha Frierson, and Ericka Huggins led the charge, scoring ten of the 12 points.
DSU would score seven more points in the rest of the first quarter to hold a 19-12 edge over The Lady Bulldogs.
The Hornets lead by 15 at the end of the first half.
Fast forward to the 5:41 mark in the second quarter, where Delaware State expanded their advantage to 27-12, with Senior guard Nykesha Sanders made a layup.
The Hornets would score three more points for the rest of the quarter to head into halftime with an impressive 30-15 lead.
Delaware State takes home a 71-38 win!
The third quarter featured Amya Scott and Jermesha Frierson show, as they scored 12 of the team’s 17 points to help the Hornets take a 47-22 edge heading into the fourth.
Fast forward to the 3:22 minute mark in the fourth, where Nevaeh Reaves drained a three-pointer to put DSU up 66-31.
The Hornets would score five more points in the quarter to seal a 71-38 win over South Carolina State.
