The Wilmington University men’s basketball team earned its ninth win of the season on Tuesday with a 91-79 victory over the Holy Family University Tigers.
Sophomore guard Jaylin Horsey led the team in scoring in the win, with 19 points.
Sophomore forward Tre Hawkins recorded a double-double in the victory, scoring 16 points and collecting 12 rebounds.
Three Wilmington players who scored in double digits were Sophomore guard Denim Perkins (12), Junior guard Jaiden Guy (18), and Senior guard Justin Perez (15).
WilmU had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, including fast-break points (14-13), second-chance points (9-7), turnovers (9-13), and assists (18-14).
Wilmington University also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 53.4%(31-58) and Holy Family 48.2% (27-56). The Wildcats were also the better team at the three-point line in this game, as the team shot 54.5% (12-22), and the Tigers shot 25.9% (7-27).

The Wildcats started the game strong, jumping out to an 11-3 lead with 16:23 left in the first half. Junior forward Zavion Bianchini led the charge during that run, scoring two points and collecting three rebounds.
In the next nine minutes and 19 seconds, Holy Family punched back, outscoring the Cats 21-11 and grabbing a 24-22 advantage.
WilmU roared back by going on a 16-9 run for the rest of the opening period to take a 38-33 lead heading into halftime. Tre Hawkins and Justin Perez caused trouble for the Tigers’ defenders, scoring 15 of the team’s 16 points. Perez drained three shots from the three-point line during that time.
The Wildcats take home a 91-79 win!
Fast forward to the 10:17 minute mark in the second half, where Tre Hawkins rocked the rim with a dunk that put Wilmington up 64-54.
In the next eight minutes, it was the Jaylin Horsey show, as he scored 14 of the team’s 26 points to expand the Wildcats lead to 90-71 with 2:06 remaining in the game.
