The Goldey-Beacom College women’s basketball team earned its fourth win of the season on Saturday with a 71-63 victory over the Dominican University of New York Chargers.
Junior guard Genesis Garcia led the Lightning in scoring in the win, with 22 points.
Senior guard Rory Ciszkowski also scored in double-digits in the game with 13 points.
The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included bench points (14-4), assists (18-7), and blocks (2-0).
Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 55.3% (26-47) and Dominican shooting 37.1%(26-70). GBC bested the Chargers at the three-point line as the team shot 55.0%(11-20) and Dominican 26.5%%(9-34). The Lightning was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 80.0%(8-10), and the Chargers shot 16.7%(3-18).

In the first five minutes of this game, it was a tight affair with the lead never going beyond four, and then the Lightning brought it back down to one point (8-7) when Rory Ciszkowski drained a three-pointer.
GBC would get on a roll after this as the team outscored the Chargers 14-4 for the rest of the quarter to take a 21-12 edge. Goldey-Beacom lit it up from the three-point line during this time, draining four shots from there.
The Lightning holds a nine-point lead at the end of the first half.
In the second quarter, it was Genesis Garcia, senior guard Karlee Lemon, and Rory Ciszkowski show, as the trio scored 11 of the Lightning’s 15 points to take the team into halftime with a 36-27 advantage.
GBC leads by ten points in the third quarter.
In the third quarter, Genesis Garcia and Rory Ciszkowski continued to take charge, as the duo scored eight of Goldey’s 15 points to help take a ten-point edge (51-41) into the fourth.
Goldey-Beacom takes home a 71-63 win!
In the first seven minutes and 53 seconds of the final quarter, Dominican (N.Y.) went on a 14-7 run to clip the deficit to seven points (62-55) with 2:47 left in the game.
The Lightning would score nine more points to seal a 71-63 win over the Chargers.
