The Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team earned its 11th win of the season on Wednesday with a 109-72 victory over the Jefferson University Rams.
Junior forward Julian Williams led the team in scoring in the win with 21 points.
Six other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were Sophomore guard Brian Blanchet(18), Sophomore guard Tre Powell (17), Junior guard/forward Emarquis Jones (11), Senior guard Justin Allen(11), Sophomore guard Anthony Akande (10), and Junior guard Jalen Robinson (10).
The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included second chance points (15-10), points in the paint (44-38), points off of turnovers (20-9), steals (5-3), fast-break points (21-7), turnovers (8-12), assists (23-10), and rebounds (40-26).
Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 60.3% (44-73) and Jefferson shooting 45.3% (29-64). GBC bested the Rams at the three-point line as the team shot 45.5%% (15-33) and Jefferson 26.3%(5-19). Lightning was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 85.7%(6-7), and the Rams shot 64.3%(9-14).

The Lightning came out ready to strike in the early minutes of this matchup as they jumped out to a 30-14 edge with 12:30 left in the opening period. GBC rarely missed a shot during this time, as they made 12 of the 14 attempts. The team also drained all six three-pointers they attempted.
Jalen Robinson, Brian Blanchet, Emarquis Jones, and Julian Williams led the charge, scoring 23 of the 30 points.
Fast forward to the 4:54-minute mark, where Goldey-Beacom’s lead expanded to 24 (52-28) when Anthony Akande nailed a three-pointer.
Blanchet and Williams would drive the final minutes of the first half for the Lightning, scoring eight of the team’s ten points to head into halftime with a 62-36 advantage.

In the early minutes of the second half, Goldey-Beacom continued to make it look easy on the court as the team went on a 37-16 run to push the lead to 99-52 with 9:53 left in the game. Tre Powell, Julian Williams, Brian Branchet, Emarquis Jones, and Justin Allen caused problems for the Jefferson defenders as they scored 30 of the team’s 37 points during this stretch.
Jefferson outscored GBC 20-10 for the rest of the second half, but it didn’t matter as the Lightning still took home a convincing 109-72 win.
