The Goldey-Beacom College women’s basketball team earned its second win of the season on Tuesday with a 69-62 win over the Georgian Court University Lions.
Sophomore forward Lydia Betz led the team in scoring in the win, with 26 points. She also had eight rebounds and six blocks in the game.
Senior guard Rory Ciszkowski also scored in double digits in the win with 13 points.
The Lightning had the advantage in blocks (7-3).
Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 50.0% (24-48) and Georgian Court shooting 35.3% (24-68). GBC bested the Lions at the three-point line as the team shot 36.4% (8-22) and Georgian Court 20.8%(5-24).

The Lightning started the game quickly by jumping out to a 5-0 edge with 7:49 left in the opening period. Senior forward Gaia Zimbardo didn’t score during this stretch, but she played a huge part by collecting two rebounds, blocking a shot, and having an assist.
Georgian Court stormed right back and scored five straight points of their own to tie the game at five with 6:34 remaining in the first quarter.
GBC took back the lead when the team went on a 7-2 run to put the score at 12-7 with 4:02 left in the opening period. Rory Ciszkowski and Lydia Betz each drained a three-pointer during this time.
The Lions roared back by outscoring Goldey-Beacom 11-4 to take an 18-16 advantage into the second.
The Lightning leads by five points at the end of the first half.
Goldey-Beacom had the shots going in the early minutes of the second quarter, with the team going on a 9-2 run to grab a 25-20 edge with 6:02 left in the opening half. Freshman forward Amber Furtado led the charge, scoring four points and collecting three rebounds.
The Lightning scored nine more points in the quarter to head into halftime with a 34-29 advantage. Lydia Betz caused problems for the Georgian Court defenders by scoring seven of the nine points. She had two blocks and two rebounds during this stretch.
GBC leads by three points at the end of the third quarter.
The Lions came out in the early minutes of the second half with a new fire by going on a 14-9 run to tie the game at 43 with 2:31 left in the third.
Goldey outscored Georgian Court 5-2 for the rest of the quarter to head into the fourth with a 48-45 lead.
Goldey-Beacom takes home a 69-62 win!
The Lightning continued to expand their lead in the early minutes of the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lions 13-6 to take a 61-51 edge with 2:34 left in the game. Lydia Betz was all over the stat line during this time, scoring two points and having two blocks.
GBC scored eight more points in the quarter to seal a 69-62 win over Georgian Court.
