Four Goldey-Beacom players reach double-digits in 99-85 victory over Georgian Court

The  Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team earned its ninth win of the season on Tuesday with a 99-85 victory over the Georgian Court University Lions.

Sophomore guard Tre Powell led the team in scoring in the win with 22 points.

Three other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were junior guard Elisha Brown (21), Senior guard Justin Allen (14), and junior guard/forward Emarquis Jones (14).

The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points off of turnovers (15-14), bench points (36-16), rebounds (44-39), assists (15-9), turnovers (12-15), and steals (8-4).

Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 49.3% % (33-67) and Georgian Court shooting 43.2%% (32-74). GBC also outshot the Lions from the three-point line, with the team shooting 36.4% %(8-22) and Georgian Court shooting 20.8 %(5-24).

Goldey-Beacom holds a three-point lead at the end of the first half.

In the first six minutes and 42 seconds of this game, Tre Powell and Elisha Brown had the hot touch, scoring 15 of the Lightning’s 16 points to help them to a 16-10 edge with 13:58 left in the opening period.

Georgian Court roared back by outscoring the GBC 17-10 to grab a 27-26 edge with 5:45 remaining in the first half.

Junior guard Jalen Robinson helped Goldey-Beacom take a 35-32 advantage into halftime by scoring two points, collecting a rebound, and having one steal.

The Lightning takes home a 99-85 win!

Goldey expanded on their lead in the early minutes of the second half by going on a 13-6 run to push the score to 48-38 with 15:54 on the clock. Justin Allen led the charge by scoring seven of the 13 points during that stretch.

Fast forward to the 9:13 minute mark, where Tre Powell nailed a three-pointer to put his team up by 18 (66-48).

Tre Powell, Elisha Brown, and Allen carried the Lightning for the rest of the game, scoring 22 of the team’s 33 final points to seal a 99-85 victory over the Lions.
